Light Clothing Course

This course offers the exciting opportunity for students to acquire skills in pattern cutting and garment manufacture for the light clothing industry. Body measuring, and producing garments to fit our ever changing shapes can be both challenging and rewarding.  On this course, basic rules of pattern cutting are taught, but rules can be broken if basic principles are learned thoroughly first.

The lessons will be organised around the requirements of the applicants to the course.

The course will begin with a study of the human figure and how to measure the body accurately. Using direct body measurements, students will produce individual basic block patterns, your patterns will then be manipulated into many different styles.

 

The course will cover pattern cutting and block manipulation for skirts.

Pattern cutting and block manipulation for the bodice and sleeve blocks

Pattern cutting and block manipulation for dresses

Pattern cutting and block manipulation for stretch fabrics

The basic principles of manual pattern grading will be covered if required.

 

On completion of the course, successful students will have:

A.        Enhanced pattern cutting knowledge.

B.        Improved manufacturing skill and knowledge

C.        Enhance confidence in pattern construction

D.       Design and manufactured two garments
